I’m Karis, and alongside our family smallholding in Otham, near Maidstone in Kent, I run KARISTYLE – a tiny, one-to-one salon nestled quite literally amongst our sheep, chickens and ducks.
Over time, the two sides of my life have become completely intertwined. Clients might arrive for their appointment to find a sheep waiting at the gate, chickens wandering around the salon or ducks happily pottering nearby. It’s all part of the experience – and exactly how our tagline, “Where Salon Meets Smallholding”,came about.
What makes our story even more special is that KARISTYLE was recently named Runner-Up for Best Home Salon in the UK at the Hair & Beauty Awards. Selected from thousands of entries nationwide, this wonderful achievement also made KARISTYLE the highest-placed home salon in England.It still feels rather surreal that our little salon in the middle of a Kent smallholding has received national recognition. Yet outside the salon doors, everyday life carries on exactly as before – with sheep to tend, chickens and
ducks underfoot and, of course, plenty of Kentish mud!Perhaps that’s what makes KARISTYLE a little different: professional,personal hairdressing in a setting where salon life and country life come
together in a way that is entirely our own.
